Mommy Monday: I want to be THAT Mommy and Wife

In reading Proverbs 31, these passages stood out. So often I get caught up in the distractions of this world. Feeling pulled in many directions, and incapable of keeping up with it all. I sometimes have difficulty prioritizing what's really important, and what can be set aside or forgotten completely. One of my qualities is being ambitious and eager to experience a lot in life. But a downfall to that is also taking on too much and getting involved in things that sometimes just don't matter in the big picture.

But when I'm in my quiet moments with the Lord, trusting my life and my family's life in His care, I'm able to take a deep breathe and hand over control. I'm able to forgive myself for all my shortcomings, and look to Christ for the renewing I need, each day.

Proverbs 31:10
Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

Proverbs 31:25-30
She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household, and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her: "There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!" Charm is deceptive and beauty does not last, but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

What an honor it would be to know you possess the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman! How incredible to have your husband and children look to you the way this passage describes the husband and children do. I want to be THAT woman for my family.

It's not about praising yourself and expecting praise when you do good things, or when you're succeeding in the care and upkeep of your family and household. It's about striving to glorify God in practicing the art of diligently working to become better and better at the role of mommy and wife. It's about being content and knowing you're serving a bigger purpose. An eternal purpose.

This is what I want to have as my focus. To be the wife who enriches my husband's life. To be the mommy who is wise and kind and carefully watches my household. Can you think of any higher honor? I can't. And these things are sweet, meaningful goals to strive for in life.
