Family Trip to the Coast Aug. 12-13, 2013

We just spent two amazing days on the Oregon coast. It was a surprise trip to celebrate my husband's birthday. We took Landon and enjoyed some much needed family time away. In fact, it was the first overnight trip we've taken, just the 3 of us, since Landon was born.

We left Monday afternoon, and made our first stop in Newport. We enjoy going there when we come to the coast, so we relaxed on Nye Beach for a while, before heading to our destination.

Landon has always been reluctant of sand. Something to do with the texture and difficulty to walk on I think. It took him a little while, but he got more used to it and eventually sat and played in it with the bucket and shovel we brought him.

After the beach we drove into Lincoln City and checked into our hotel, the Inn at Wecoma. Our room had a fireplace and balcony, with a view of the ocean. We got ready and walked to dinner, at the Blackfish Cafe. It was delicious! We enjoyed the grilled Ribeye, Flat Iron steak and cups of the best clam chowder I've had so far.

After dinner we went back to our hotel and swam in the indoor pool for a while. Landon has been in swim lessons the last several weeks, so he had fun splashing around and jumping off the edge of the pool. Quite the little water baby.

Tuesday morning we woke up early (thanks to our little man) and ate the complimentary breakfast at our hotel. Nothing special, but free and convenient! Can't beat that. :) Then we left for Depoe Bay, where I had a few things planned for our day.

We took a charter boat out for an hour and went whale watching! We did this in Maui last December and really enjoyed it, so I thought my husband would like to do it again. It's nice to have these things to do, so close to where we live. He was surprised and we had a great time! The weather couldn't have been more perfect for a boat ride.

We spotted a huge grey whale! It was pretty close to our boat for a while, so we watched it spout out water, kick its tale up and come up over the water with its hump several times. It was Landon's first time on a boat and he did great. At first he was very unsure, and I'm sure it didn't help that it was so cold with the wind and being on a boat, but he got used to it and started pointing to the birds, ducks and other boats, gasping in excitement. I'd say it was a successful boat ride!

Freezing but having a blast!

While we were in Depoe Bay we stopped at the Chowder Bowl for a casual lunch, and walked the street of shops at our leisure. It was so much fun to be somewhere new, making new memories as a family. And I love that whenever we want, we can come for a day trip to these places! I love living in Oregon!

The end of our trip was slightly less exciting, as we had some issues with my car. The brake calipers seized up, so we had to take it in before driving home, as they said it wasn't safe to drive. So.... a hefty chunk of money later, we have it all fixed. While waiting for our car, we had no choice but to walk around the Tanger Outlets, right!? :) Mainly window shopping since our money was spent on fixing the car, but it was fun nonetheless, just walking around and not having to rush off anywhere. The weather was perfect the whole time we were on the coast. So grateful for the sunshine and breeze!

We got on the road around 6pm to head home. Friends came over to watch a movie and hang out, so it was a late night, but so fun! I'd say it was a pretty perfect 2 days, minus the car shenanigans of course. I love my little family and our outings together. So grateful for things to celebrate, quality time and beautiful weather!
