DIY All Natural Deodorant

Now, let me start off by saying I am not a hippie (if you are, I don't mean any offense). :) My husband keeps joking that ever since we moved to Oregon, I'm becoming one.

It has nothing to do with moving to Oregon, and everything to do with the fact I have more time available to me, and we're a one-income household. If anything, I feel I've become more resourceful. It has been interesting to me to explore the idea of making my own things... whatever it may be. New recipes, crafts/decor for my home, lotions and I guess now my own deodorant, lol. If you can make things for yourself you would normally buy at the store, why not!? :)

The cream I made for my son's eczema has worked for him, so I got inspired and started looking into other things I want to make. My next project will be lotion and lip balm. These are all things I've spent countless dollars on over the years. If I can occasionally make it for myself, why wouldn't I!?

Anyway.... on to the recipe. I kind of threw this one together after spending some time online reviewing different recipes. Try this one or others and see if you like it! You probably have most of these items in your home already, so you shouldn't have to spend money. If you don't, the ingredients are inexpensive, and probably less than you typically spend on a stick of deodorant anyway.

What you'll need:
Corn Starch
Baking Soda
Coconut Oil
Vitamin E
Essential Oil (optional)
Empty deodorant container

1. Mix together 1/4 cup of cornstarch with 1/4 cup baking soda
2. Add 2-4 tbsp. of coconut oil (I started with 2 and had to add a bit more to make it blend together with the dry ingredients)
3. Add a few drops of Vitamin E (I punctured a Vitamin E tablet and squeezed out the contents)
4. Optional:  If you'd like your deodorant scented, add several drops of your favorite essential oil
5. Blend everything together until it is blended and has a smooth, creamy appearance
6. Pack the mix into an old deodorant stick casing (be sure it has been thoroughly cleaned out from prior use)

My finished product - smells so fresh!

  1. Very Awesome! I am going to have to try this. Love your blog Brit!

  2. I'd love to hear if you like it, especially since you're a runner. I'm not sweating as much as I should these days (need to get more consistent with my workout routine). I'll be interested to see how well this deo holds up after a good sweating session! :) Thanks for checking out my blog Amanda!
