Reflection

September 8, 2011 wasn't just my 26th birthday, but most importantly, it was the day my son was born! Talk about the best birthday present I could ever ask for! :) Landon James Lawrence, born at 9:18am, weighing 6 lbs. 15 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. He had a full head of hair and was wide-eyed and curious from the start.

Landon just turned 8 weeks old on Thursday. I can't believe how quickly this time has already gone by! Every parent I know has always said when I have a child to, "Enjoy every minute, because it's going to fly by." I now know what they mean! I definitely look forward to each day, and try to embrace and enjoy every moment, since I can't get it back. Landon is already growing so fast. I just love to hold him and snuggle him.

Yesterday I took the nurse who helped deliver him a homemade card with a picture of her holding Landon. She was incredible with us, and I'm so grateful I had someone like her to make me feel so comfortable throughout my hospital experience. It still seems surreal that I went through all of that, and that my son actually grew in my belly and came out of me! lol

I had an amazing birth experience, and was able to have Landon without the need for medication. I made the decision early on in my pregnancy that I wanted to have a natural birth. I wasn't necessarily against getting medication, but it wasn't what I wanted. I truly felt my body was made for this, and that with God's help, I could have the birth experience I wanted. I'm so grateful I did.

I labored in a tub at the hospital almost the entire time. It significantly lowered my pain level, and helped my muscles relax. Now having done that, I would never have a baby another way. I feel like it helped me achieve my goal in natural childbirth. The warm water and jets felt amazing during contractions. When I felt the urge to push, they made me get out and get on the bed. Within 30 minutes of pushing, my sweet baby boy entered the world! My labor lasted a total of 6 hours. I couldn't believe how quickly everything went! I went into it knowing the average first time labor can last up to 20 hours. I feel so blessed everything went the way it did, and I look back with fond memories of the day Landon was born.

In the 8 weeks since he was born, he's brought more joy to my life than I can express in words. And the exciting thing is.. I know it's just going to keep getting better! He smiles and giggles and cuddles and makes me so happy. He has such a good personality, and not much seems to bother him. He loves to observe his surroundings, and wants to be upright to not miss anything. He loves being held and likes to bounce. He loves being in his swing and looking at the birds that hang from it. He seems to have a conversation with them when he thinks I'm not looking. :)

I'm so blessed to be on this journey of motherhood, and look forward to what the future holds. More updates will come as my lil man grows! :)
